Jim Waldo, an engineer for Sun, has written two thought-provoking posts [via Freedom to Tinker] about standards. Being thought-provoking, they got me thinking about my plans for creating an XML-based backup system for my weblog software. Originally, I was going to extend RSS for this purpose, since I was familiar with it. Now that I've taken a minute to step back, I realize that this may not be the best choice. I hope to have the first draft of the new format posted in a few days.
