I'm all about hating these guys. Pretty sad considering they make some pretty nice looking pieces.
Formac sucks
These stories about Formac sound so familiar. Those of you who know me know what I went through after buying a sporadically non-functioning CD burner from them. The only way I was able to get any action was to report them to the BBB. Even then, they lied to the BBB that they had already given me an RMA number, which I got after the BBB sent me Formac's response.

In June of 2003 I purchased an expensive,
professional computer monitor from Formac. It cost
$700. Five months later it stopped working. The
monitor has a one year warranty, so I attempted to
contact the company. They have no phone support,
and will only answer support questions via e-mail.
After a long, unresponsive ordeal via e-mail over a
couple of weeks, I finally got Formac to admit that
the monitor was defective, and the issued me an RMA
number and an address to return the monitor to. Not
only will they not provide phone support, but they
force you to pay for shipping the monitor, and if they
don't find it defective, they will charge you 20% of the
monitor's purchase price before they ship it back to
you. Their policies are very punitive.
I shipped the monitor via UPS ground on 11/10/03. It
was due to arrive at Formac the following Monday,
11/17/03. UPS attempted to deliver it 3 times, on
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Each time there
was no one available to sign for the package. Now
the monitor is at a UPS holding facility for 5 days
before it gets shipped back to me.
I have tried calling Formac, no one picks up the
phone, it just rings. I have tried e-mailing and faxing,
but I get no response. Their web site is still online,
http://www.formac.com, and they are still taking orders on
their web site.
This is incredibly frustrating, and I feel cheated,
deceived, and misled. I am now out $700 for a
monitor and an additional $53 for shipping, and I am
receiving no support from the company whatsoeverm
even though the monitor is well within the one year
warranty period.
I'm not sure what you can do for me in this regard,
but I would like my monitor repaired, or preferably a
refund of the purchase price.
Document everything and file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. It takes a while, but they seem to respond to that.
Thanks for the tip I hate it when companies do this to there customers… I am looking for a good monitor and was going to by a Formac but not now.
My boyfriend bought the same Monitor and we are having the worst time with Formac, the monitor just stopped working and since it has been exactly 1 year since purchase, we had to like you send it back pay shipping and oddly they didn't even want to repair and we said we would pay for it. Well we paid $100 dollars and got it back today and it still doesn't allow us to run the keyboard or the mouse through it. They said that we were not suppose to hook anything up to it???? What kind of crap is that…. then what good is it.
We feel screwed and there is nothing we can do about it.
