Markdown 1.0
Markdown 1.0 is out of beta. There are several ports of Markdown, including one in PHP. I guess I don't have much of an excuse to not add it to the blog code now.

Apparently, Joyce Park, of Troutgirl fame, was fired (via Jeremy Zawodny) from her job at Friendster for blogging. If that's all there is to the story, this could end up being a disaster for Friendster.
Apparently, it's new product day here at the blog.
The new iMac G5 looks like a definite improvement over the previous version. It's kind of too bad that they couldn't fit the entire computer behind the screen, though. The plastic below the screen is kind of clunky-looking.
It looks like the G5's heat sink is getting smaller. Hopefully it's not too long before it's small enough to fit in a notebook.
There is an official beta of Skype for Mac OS X. I hope it's not as bad as the version I've been using. Oops. Did I just say that? (via Joi Ito)
BBEdit 8.0 was released yesterday. Even though I do most of my text editing in vim these days, I still find BBEdit to be an essential piece of software. I'm particularly happy that they did something about window clutter with the Documents Drawer.
If your site doesn't work in Firefox, you might want to fix that. It looks like Google might be producing their own Gecko-based browser.
No doubt. I've been doing forms all day.
There are two views of America: One as a nation that is descending or has descended into a cesspool of self indulgence, evil, and corruption: that has an invisible “this” as the second word on the motto on our currency. The other is that it is still, with all its flaws, the greatest nation on earth. Alexis de Tocqueville, in his work “Democracy in America” before the Civil War, reportedly claimed that “America is great because America is good. When America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great”. So, is America still good? I mean to take a look, across the middle of the country, and report what I see, both bad and good: not from the comfort of an office or the pinnacles of prestige, but…
From the Ground.
Today, Evan Williams pointed out this incredibly fascinating blog. Be sure to read the first post on the site first.
Ok, one week after I actually did it, here is the story of what I did last weekend. I think you'll find it interesting. Included are a bunch of pictures, a few movies, a table, 200,000 KeV and several things I have never done before.
This post by George Lazenby is one of the best things I've ever read on any blog. (via Boing Boing)
