&lt;p&gt;I wouldn&#039;t call John Vanderslice &quot;lo-fi&quot; -- far from it.  He&#039;s known for recording &lt;a href=&quot;http://tinytelephone.com/html/gear.html&quot; rel=&quot;nofollow&quot;&gt;analog&lt;/a&gt;, though, which gives his stuff a warmth and depth that makes it hard to put next to anything else on a mix.  But I would say that he and John Darnielle have a similar songwriting aesthetic (though Darnielle might be a just plain better songwriter).  They&#039;re also friends who go on tour together and play on each other&#039;s albums.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Also, I&#039;m going to go see Joanna Newsom and the Handsome Family tomorrow night at the Vic!  Woo!&lt;/p&gt;
