I am a longtime Skype user but am now considering switching over to Gizmo - the open standards approach is very appealing and the call quality on my Nokia E90 is superior to what Skype offers.

It looks like I missed a big difference between Gizmo and Skype. Gizmo uses an open standard called SIP (via Slashdot) to ensure interoperability with other VOIP systems.
