Video of Architeuthis

Yesterday, Japanese scientists unveiled what’s believed to be the first video of a live Architeuthis.

That makes three posts in three years on this subject.

There’s a new trailer (via Josh Bancroft) out for the upcoming Transformers movie. I’m trying not to be too excited about it. It’s directed by Michael Bay, whose work I completely dislike.

My sympathies are with Andru Edwards, whose father, George Budabin, passed away yesterday.

Re: All a Twitter about Twitter?

(This is a reply to a post on Frustrated Geek.)

I agree that Twitter doesn’t make much sense on a large scale. However, it makes a ton of sense locally. If I’m somewhere in Portland and would like to meet up with someone for dinner or drinks, it allows me to broadcast that information to everyone who is listening. It’s also a lot less intrusive than calling people up to ask if they will meet you.

Unfortunately, Twitter doesn’t really seem to be playing up the local angle. Dodgeball does, but I really don’t know anyone who uses it.

Scavenger hunt

There’s only one item on this scavenger hunt: Vivaldi’s Concerto in D Minor performed on the guitar by Pepé Romero. As far as I can tell, it’s out of print. I do know that it was published by Philips. If you can produce a complete recording of the work, or show me where I can find it, you win something. What that something is, I’m not sure yet. Suggestions are welcome.

It must have been frightening for my neighbors to see this big guy running around, laughing into the cold night air.

I just couldn’t help myself. The Areas of My Expertise by John Hodgman (a.k.a. PC from the Apple commercials) is very funny. Download it for free (via Marusin) from iTunes while you can.

As you may have noticed, I didn’t get the post about my new phone finished over the weekend. I wasn’t really in the writing mood. I also need to do a little more research. Tomorrow evening, maybe.

It looks like this weekend is going to be all about the mobile web. I just set up a Twitter account (feed here). I’m not sure I understand how it will be useful yet. But I said the same thing about del.icio.us before I started using it, so I’m going to give this a try.

Unfortunately, I only know two people who use Twitter. If you are using it please tell me.
