My name is Matthew Ryan Francis Gifford. I usually go by Matt.
I live with my wife and son in Hillsboro, Oregon. I’ve been in the Portland area since 2004. Prior to that, I lived in the Chicago area and various other parts of the Midwest.
I’m currently a web developer at OCP, a Catholic publishing company. I started working there as a contractor in the summer of 2006, and have since moved into the lead developer role. The job has been an education in working with very constrained resources and bringing new ideas to an old publisher. Before joining OCP, I worked for an online marketing startup, made small-business ecommerce sites as a freelancer, and built intranets for a large corporation.
I started programming BASIC the third grade. I’ve been fascinated by hypermedia since I discovered HyperCard in high school. After high school, I took a short detour to study biology, liberal arts, and graphic design. I eventually made my way back to programming and hypermedia when the company I was working for chose me to fix their broken shopping cart system.
