I looked at this site a day or so after having an awful experience with my one-way rental from Charlotte, NC to Cleveland, OH. I followed the same steps as several of the other people have explained (made my reservation weeks in advance, confirmed via phone a couple days in advance, and then had issues that were unsatisfactory by anyone's standards). I arrived on time to pick up my reserved truck and car carrier. The car carrier was not available and I was told by the local office that I might have to drive to another office 40 minutes away to get it (strike 1). Eventually, the local office agreed that since my rental was made so far in advance, that they should at least be responsible for delivering the car carrier later in the day.

I arrived at the budget office later that day after packing up the truck so I could hook up the car carrier. Let me preface the fact that I had called the local office to make sure I could have some help hooking up the carrier. They assured me they would help to make sure; when I arrived to hook it up, the only guy there had no idea what to do and didn't offer much help. (Strike 2). When we finally got it hooked up, I started to drive away and noticed in the side mirror that one of the wheels of the carrier was not in line. I went into the office to tell the attendant and she said "well that's the only one we have, you can call Roadside to see if they can fix it."

Called Roadside, they sent out a tire guy to fix it (he took about 2 hours to come out). Long story short, he couldn't fix it and the solution from Budget Roadside was to return the carrier to the local budget office to see if they could fix it the next morning. I couldn't wait for that so my plan was to just drop it off at the local Budget office and hit the road without my car. (I'm fuming at this point; safe to say strike 3).

While driving to the local budget office, the bend axle of the car carrier forced the tire to rub against the side of the carrier and smoke. At this point, I called roadside and told them what cross street they could send a tow truck to pick up the piece of junk trailer.

So, I'm pretty certain this warranted a refund of some sort.

The next day, while driving through a rainstorm the entire way through the APP mountains (I won't blame Budget for the weather). Rain started making its way into the cab of the truck (strike whatever number I'm on).

I get to my final destination, unpack the truck that I desperately wanted to slam with a Molotov cocktail, and return it to the Cleveland office.

CALLING budget customer service was less than easy. I had to talk to several different people, and go through several levels of customer service until finally I got through to the right person.

KATHY A. took an extra couple of minutes to listen to what I dealt with rather than just responding with a canned corporate response. Budget agreed to refund me the cost of the carrier ($179) and then agreed to pay for my car to be shipped to Ohio from NC. This cost was ($325) and was worth every penny from working with a company called Road Dog Transport - They are awesome and I highly recommend using them.

In the end, I can't blame budget for ALL of the BS I had to deal with. I can Blame them with having a lackluster customer service hierarchy.

IF I have a problem and it's your fault; take care of it the same way you would charge me if you had a problem and it was my fault.

All in all, I would rent from Budget again, believe it or not, in the end; they took responsibility for how they messed up and reimbursed me what I considered was a fair amount.

They still seem to suck! We have just got a $400 bill for the key which was damaged when we got it! They were so over booked with cars at Cairne Airport that we received a car which was dirty but hey we are reasonable and said it was not a problem. Next time (which I doubt there will be another with Budget) I will be a stick in the mud demanding that they fix every last detail and I will check the key. Watch out for our call Budget I will be fighting this $400 bill all the way.

Budget does suck for the customers and for the employee's as well. I have worked for budget for the last 10 years as a auto mechanic and i have to say that it is probably the worst company to work for. The only reason i have stayed is because it is a non-flat rate pay job which guarantees me a 40 hour check each week. One day i hope to find a better job but so far no luck.

@ Sea-Tac: I came about 2 hrs early to pick up a rental car they tried charge me $80 more; I refused and came back about 10min too early the 2nd guy tried to charged me about $40 more than the quote I refused they then canceled the reservation!

I have then to stay inline again and deal with a 3rd person she then said 'well, your reservation is canceled!' I told her but not by me and I insist on the reservation which basically is a contract. They then honored the contract. Pain, pain a lot pain; not sure what they want?
Without my kids and they were so excited about the vacation I would just say fuck you and go home then.

This place Sucks balls!!!!!!!

so I went to pick up my moving truck and trailer I had reserved a two weeks in advance and of course they had neither truck or trailer even tho I called the day before to make sure I could come at 8:00 the day before. After waiting 3 hours for them to bring them from some other budget I finally get packed and start on my move from Washington to cali.5 hours later the crappy trailer wheel falls off hub and every thing called there 800 # I had to wait 30min till someone answered then they told me they can't do anything till 8 the next morning, well its 1 in the afternoon and 6 phone calls later they bring a new trailer. Another 4 hours down the road the truck starts to smoke and the Whole thing stars over again.I FUCKING HATE BUDGET
